Position Purpose : To undertake fault finding, repair, maintenance, refurbishment, and alteration of existing electrical installations, plant and equipment on a 24 hour basis including specialist maintenance to substation electricity network infrastructure and associated electronic protection, monitoring and billing equipment, and to provide new electrical installations in the port as required; to ensure an effective electrical distribution and maintenance service is supplied in the port and its clients Position outputs : High Voltage & Medium Voltage • Accept responsibilities of been appointed in terms of the High Voltage Regulations. • Tracing and locating faults with sophisticated equipment and the repair thereof. • Trace, locate and identify cable faults and repair thereof.

Please report any suspicious activities in this regard to the Transnet anti-fraud line on 0800 003 056. • High Voltage switching and taking out work and test permits. • Faultfinding and repair and maintenance to transformers including voltage transformers • Maintenance, faultfinding, repairs and test running of fire pumps, ( 3.3KV motors) • Maintenance, faultfinding and repairs to oil circuit breakers/ vacuum circuit breakers and busbar circuits • Supervise workers assisting with preventative and breakdown repairs and maintenance on substation switchgear, transformers and cables • Provide assistance to and supervision of consultants and contractors executing contract work in substations Low Voltage (under 1000 volts) • Testing, fault finding, repairs and to equipment. • Testing, fault finding and repairs to electronic equipment • Maintenance, fault finding and repairs to single and three phase motors and associated electrical equipment. • Maintenance to power harmonic filters. • Ensure Distribution of power from kiosk, mini subs and sub stations to consumers. • Maintenance, faultfinding, repairs and test running of diesel electric standby plants. • Maintenance, faultfinding and repairs to Fire fighting systems and associated electrical equipment. • Assemble, erect and maintain high mast, security, road and area lighting. • Install, maintain, and repair electrical light and power supplies to buildings and quays • Maintenance, fault finding and repairs to sewer stations and pumps and associated electrical equipment Air-conditioning and Refrigeration • Undertake all electrical and mechanical duties associated with the testing, fault finding and repair of electronics, electronic and pneumatic controlled valves, dampers, timers and actuators as well as electrical motors and pumps found on air conditioning plant and equipment. • Undertake minor plumbing duties. • Acid cleaning of water cooling condensers • Fault finding and repairs to large and small air conditioning plant, ie, window, console, split systems, water air cooled ducted package systems, • Test units for gas leaks • Removes, clean and replaces filters and panels • Checks wiring connections for safety and security • Lubricate fan motor bearings. • Charge units with refrigerant • Brazes and silver solders refrigerant lines and components • Visually checks motor, condenser and evaporator fans, compressor unit mountings and secureness of refrigerator pipes • Recovery of gasses from plants and stores gasses for later use. • Removes control switch assembly (thermostat and all safety devices) checks wiring and connections, clean and replaces. • Removes defective units and replace new/overhauled units. • Supervise Trade Hand/Process Worker. • Chasing of walls and floors using mechanical and electrical hand tools. • Undertake driving duties. • Application of anti corrosion compound • Brush painting of units/fridges and general painting of plant/equipment. General Electrical activities • Inspect and test all Electrical Installations to ensure compliance as per NPA’s Electrical Policy. • Electrical modification to equipment • Control the use of electrical tools and materials and carry out repairs to such tools • Cleaning of all electrical equipment. • Read electrical schematics and plans

Qualifications & Experience : Matric Trade tested A/brown Certification (High Voltage) Code 08 driver’s licence Wiremen’s Licence 5 to 7 years’ experience in the Electrical field Competencies : • Knowledge of SHE Act., SANS1 0142, • Knowledge of electrical/mechanical hand tools/materials • Interpretation of electrical schematics • Knowledge of first aid • High/low voltage jointing techniques • Organising skills • Basic Knowledge of welding and brazing • Interpersonal skills • Supervisory skills • Computer skills • Decision-making • Communication skills
